Every organization we work with is navigating its own inflection point — a leadership change, a funding crisis, an anniversary, a plan that's gone stale. Here's what happened when we got to work.
CASA for Children of Essex CountyFractional Development and Communications Support
ProblemA beloved organization serving foster youth in New Jersey with a talented new executive director and no development or communications resources and a fundraising-averse board.
Strategic responseLeveraged an anniversary year to develop three audiences: former trustees, current trustees, and prospective trustees. For former trustees, a strategic analysis including surveys, in-depth interviews and best practices yielded a board alumni event that attracted over 15 former board members from across 40 years of service. Key former board re-engaged to support the ED in specific initiatives throughout the year. For current trustees, delivered a fundraising workshop to identify prospects, weak ties and other avenues for inspiration, and a portfolio of board driven initiatives to pursue. For prospective trustees, a “friend raiser” speaker series was launched, creating community and thought leadership and a visibility platform for the Executive Director.
resultsFormer board engagement rose by 25%. Five new high value relationships for the Executive Director. Current board fundraising activity increased from 0 to full pipeline of activity with champions and owners. Prospective board development community event yielded 1 new board member and was sold out.
New Jersey Bike Walk CoalitionFundraising Narratives & Grant Strategies
ProblemA powerful advocacy group ready to expand beyond the scope of existing grants, but lacking the staff capacity or board bandwidth to articulate a step change in the case for support and identify, develop and pursue new funding partners across four pillars of impact.
Strategic responseDeep analysis of the sector and adjacent organizations benchmarking best practices in advocacy and community organizing communications. Identified trends in philanthropy across the country and within New Jersey to find intersection points. Explored a multi-decade trajectory and crystallized past, present and future points of impact.
resultsAn approved grant pipeline, new fundraising materials and a narrative the board and staff leverage across funder conversations and grants.
ART in the Garden / Reeves-Reed ArboretumEvent Turnaround & Revenue Strategy
ProblemART in the Garden, an established and beloved public arboretum and historical home, was fatigued and showing diminishing returns.
Strategic responseAs voluntary event chair, Tracy shifted the event from an extravagant party to a serious fundraiser, starting with deep analysis of the budget and revenue levers. Moved the event to a Friday night and began planning two months earlier. Crafted a new fundraising narrative highlighting the debut of new capital improvements to the garden. Professionalized the program and activated new board members to pull in fresh support. Captured drone photography to create selling assets for future sponsorships.
resultsSold-out event. Increased attendance by 45%. Grew revenue by 37% and profit by 53% over prior year.
